One Second Ethnography

Shot and edited on iPhone, this video explores different facets of my field research on the role of the Amazonian Quichua/Kichwa media industry in Napo, Ecuador in maintaining linguistic and cultural vitality.

How can anthropologists leverage mobile technologies to enrich both their research and storytelling?

Shot and edited on iPhone during field research between 2015-2017, "One Second Ethnography" is an experiment in multimodal ethnographic practice. Drawn from a much larger archive of footage, these short videos originally enriched my field note practices, serving as a form of audiovisual jottings. The edited footage, meanwhile, provides a readily accessible introduction to the ethnographic narrative of my research, moving between sites of media production and reception, as well as into spaces of daily life in the Ecuadorian Amazon.
